Each course takes place over a four-week period for a total of 44 weeks. Students may complete the program in less than a year if courses are taken continuously.
This course introduces the features and functions of the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel, as well as email, the Internet, and Windows file management to prepare students for the computerized workplace.
The course is an overview of the history and structure of health information management, such as how health care facilities are organized, roles of different health care team members, and trends in records management. Students will become acquainted with the content and formatting of medical records and information and how they are organized and stored.
Students will learn basic medical vocabulary and gain a working knowledge of common prefixes and suffixes, Latin and Greek origins of medical terms, and root words based on anatomical structures. Spelling and pronunciation are emphasized.
The course is an overview of the structure and function of the human body, including organs, tissues, and systems.
This course explores legal and ethical principles, regulations, and policies related to health information and privacy, as well as the status of medical information as legal documents.
The course is an introduction to concepts and terminology related to common disease and disorders in specific human body systems as well as their structure, nature, causes, diagnosis, pharmacology, and treatment.
The course is a continuation of Pathology I, with a focus on the remaining systems of the human body.
Students will learn and practice the coding and guidelines of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9-CM) in depth to ensure skill and accuracy in the health care workplace.
The course covers coding and guidelines specific to outpatient care and services.
This course delves into the relationship between coding and billing, third-party payers, and methods of reimbursement, as well as more complex coding issues and coding compliance, regulations, and audits.
